The Dress that Changed Red Carpet Fashion Forever
The 80s and the 90s red carpet fashion trend was modest yet classy. However, there were the
likes of Cher who preferred wearing individualistic and revealing clothing like her Las Vegas
showgirl attire. But who would have known that one Versace dress would combine both classy yet
revealing and turn it into a new style trend thus changing red carpet fashion forever.
When Elizabeth Hurley was just a young unknown actress, she wore a controversially skimpy
but innovative dress at a 1994 movie premiere. It was a silk and lycra black Versace dress that
featured a revealing neckline, slimline straps, and cut-away parts on the sides that were each held
together with one gold Medusa's head safety pin at the bust, as well as six tactically placed safety
pins along the bodice.
The iconic nature of that dress is lasting and prompted the Naked Look Trend which still has followers
hoping to show more skin but posh.
